Frequently Asked Questions
What types of photography sessions do you offer?
I offer couples, family, maternity, motherhood, and in-home lifestyle photography. I love creative collaboration and welcome your ideas to make each session uniquely yours.
This is my first photoshoot, what should I know?
A few helpful tips to make your session run smoothly:
- Please plan to arrive at least 5-10 minutes before your session to allow time for parking, last-minute outfit or makeup touch-ups, snacks for the kids, and finding our meeting spot. Starting relaxed makes a big difference!
- Trust the process. I’ll guide you through the session with gentle poses and prompts that (hopefully!) feel natural and easy. My approach is to set things up and then step back, giving you space to move, interact, and let the magic happen.
- Focus on connection, not perfection. Don’t worry about perfectly posed smiles - interacting with each other, laughing, cuddling, and being present always creates the most meaningful images.
- For families with kids: let them be kids! Breaks, wiggles, playing, and emotions are all welcome here. Some of the most beautiful moments come from the in-between. Moving a piece of hair out of your daughter's face or holding hands with your son to walk to the next photo spot can create the most special photos!
- Keep outfits simple and coordinated, not matching. Neutral tones, soft textures, and minimal logos help keep the focus on you.
- Come ready to have fun. The more relaxed you are, the more authentic your photos will feel!
Do you offer mini sessions?
My standard sessions are available year-round, and from time to time, I also offer limited mini sessions on select dates. Be sure to follow me on Instagram for announcements, details, and booking information when mini sessions open!
Are travel expenses included?
Travel expenses for locations outside of Richmond, VA are not included and are an additional fee. I am happy to send you over more details if you are interested in a session outside of Richmond, VA. I only accept a small number of travel sessions per year so please inquire early!
How long does it take to get our photos?
You will receive your full gallery of digital images via an online gallery within two weeks of your session!
Can you recommend any good locations?
Absolutely! There are some truly beautiful spots in the Richmond area, and I have some favorites I can suggest to you. Once you are booked, we will begin brainstorming your vision for your session, and I will send you location recommendations from there.
Do you offer newborn photography?
I do not offer traditionally posed newborn photography. Instead, I offer in-home lifestyle sessions that focus on your whole family, with special emphasis on your newest addition. I don’t pose newborns or bring props or swaddles - rather, I document you snuggling in the nursery, relaxing on the couch, including your dog, and settling into life together. These sessions are meant to feel cozy, natural, and true to your family.
Lifestyle newborn sessions can be booked at whatever age you feel most comfortable. Some families choose to wait until around the four or six week mark (or later!), once they’ve had time to adjust to life with a new baby, and others prefer earlier - we can work together to figure out what works best for your family!
Sessions can be done either in your home or (weather permitting) outdoors at a location of your choice.
We will schedule your session date at the time of booking based on your due date to secure your spot!
What happens if the weather is looking bad for our session date?
Your experience and photos are very important to me! If the forecast calls for extreme wind, rain, snow, or unsafe temperatures, I’ll reach out at least 24 hours before your session to discuss next steps. For indoor sessions, I use only natural light. If the day is expected to be very cloudy or overcast, we may need to reschedule to make sure your images turn out beautifully. If we need to reschedule your session because of weather conditions, we’ll choose a new date and time that works well for both of us!
How do I book a session?
Yay! I’m so excited you’re interested in booking a session with me! Your first step is to fill out the contact form and let me know you’re interested. From there, we’ll discuss pricing and session details and find a date that works for both of us. To officially secure your session date, a non-refundable $50 deposit and a signed contract are required.
I have a simple booking process, and will send both the invoice for the retainer fee and the contract to you via a direct booking link once we have discussed a date - you will be able to easily sign your contract and pay your deposit online! You will officially be on my books when I receive both of those back.
